The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic hospital. We are a world-renowned specialist hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of complex orthopaedic conditions. Specialised orthopaedics services are those neuro-musculoskeletal (MSK) services, which, due to rarity, complexity or the required expertise, are focused in certain centres. Currently, patients receive care and treatment within these services in around 30 hospitals in England, of which three are specialist Trusts like RNOH. We are the largest of the specialist orthopaedic hospitals in the UK providing specialised and complex orthopaedic and related care to patients regionally and nationally.
As a national tertiary hospital, we provide a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal health care, ranging from acute spinal injury and complex bone tumour to orthopaedic medicine and specialist rehabilitation for chronic back pain sufferers. The Trust also offers direct access to specialist MSK services through its Enfield Musculoskeletal Community Health Hub.
Our vision for the RNOH is of continuous improvement in our status as the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic hospital, enhancing our international profile for outstanding patient care, research and education. Underlining our commitment to the achievement of this vision, RNOH was within the top 9 NHS performers nationally for patient experience.
The Trust is committed to delivering care and treatment in accordance with the principles set out in the revised NHS Constitution and to using the NHS Values, which are embodied in the Trust organisational values. The Trust has in place the following values that place patients first:
- Patients first, always
- Equality, for all
- Trust, honesty and respect, for each other
- Excellence, in all we do
Our specialist services are commissioned by NHS England and Commissioners from across London and the UK.
RNOH provides services on three sites: the Stanmore Hospital site which is a 189 bed hospital with capacity for 16 intensive care patients and is set in 112 acres of land in the London Borough of Harrow; the Bolsover Street site which attends to outpatient cases only and is located in Central London; and the Musculoskeletal community hub, which is located in Enfield. From April 2023, clinical services were consolidated into three clinical divisions: RNOH Specialist Services (within which Children’s Services currently sits, but will in time develop into a division in its own right), RNOH Local Services, and RNOH Private Care.

We are required by law to protect the public funds we administer. We may share information provided with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds, in order to prevent and detect fraud. The Cabinet Office is responsible for carrying out data matching exercises.
Data matching involves comparing computer records held by one body against other computer records held by the same or another body to determine the extent of the match. This is usually personal information. Computerised data matching allows potentially fraudulent claims and payments to be identified. Where a match is found it may indicate that there is an inconsistency which requires further investigation. No assumption can be made as to whether there is fraud, error or other explanation until an investigation is carried out.
We participate in the Cabinet Office's National Fraud Initiative: a data matching exercise to assist in the prevention and detection of fraud – see guidance https://
The processing of data by the Cabinet Office in a data matching exercise is carried out with statutory authority under its powers in Part 6 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned under data protection legislation or the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For further information on how we will use your personal data, and your rights, see National Fraud Initiative privacy notice - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For further information on the reasons why it matches particular information, see Code of Data Matching Practice for the National Fraud Initiative - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
For further information on data matching at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust please contact Tina Jones, Local Counter Fraud Specialist, by emailing tina.jones@rsmuk.com. Further information on how the NFI has assisted the NHS and other public sector organisations can also be found at National Fraud Initiative case studies - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
