Miss Elizabeth Tissingh is an orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest bone and joint infection. She is part of the Limb Reconstruction Unit at Stanmore.
She qualified as a doctor in 2008 from King’s College Hospital with distinction and is an Associate of King’s College. She has an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She completed her specialist orthopaedic training in the East of England rotation, winning trainee of the year in 2017. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She has completed sub-specialist fellowships in major trauma and orthoplastics (King’s College Hospital), bone infection (Oxford Bone Infection Unit and Sinai Hospital Baltimore), acute adult limb reconstruction (Royal London Hospital) and paediatric and elective adult limb reconstruction (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital).
Alongside her clinic work, she leads the work of King’s Global Health Partnerships in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This long-term partnership works with the ministry of health in health systems strengthening to improve the quality of care in the Kongo Central province. This work has been recognised with a King’s Alumnus of the Year award in 2018.
Her research interests include: bone and joint infection and particularly their management in low resource settings, global surgery, health systems strengthening and health economics.
She is committed to the delivery of excellent surgical care in the NHS and to improving access to safe, timely and affordable surgery in areas of the world where it is most needed.
