Apprenticeship Week: Dr Ghulam Qureshi

My name is Dr. Ghulam M Qureshi a senior Health Care Manager / professional with over 26 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. I work as the Operation’s Manager & Clinical Governance and Quality Lead (Pathology, Human Tissue). As operational manager, I am responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department. This experience is complemented by exceptional business acumen and success growing strong strategic partnerships and relationships. I also work to ensure that our hospital is in compliance with all relevant local and state regulations. Additionally, I strive to create a positive working environment where staff members are encouraged to contribute to the hospital's growth and success.

What Apprenticeship are you currently studying and how are you finding it?

I have recently completed the CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. I found the CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice a very challenging but rewarding experience with two jobs and carer’s responsibility The course material was quite complex, intense  and required a great deal of effort to comprehend, but I learned a great deal about strategic management and leadership. I enjoyed the opportunity to apply what I have learned to real-world scenarios and to explore my own leadership style. Although it was a lot of hard work but enjoyed the experience.

How has the apprenticeship supported your career development/progression? Your future career plans.

The CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice apprenticeship has been an invaluable experience for my career development and progression. The wide range of topics covered has given me a comprehensive understanding of the strategic management and leadership principles and practices applied in a business context. This has provided me with a great foundation to build upon, and has enabled me to develop and apply my own strategic management and leadership skills. By studying the CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice apprenticeship, I have gained the knowledge and confidence to become an effective leader, and to manage and lead a successful business.

In terms of my future career plans, I will be taking the skills and knowledge I have gained from the CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice apprenticeship and applying them to my current role. I plan to use my newly acquired skills to identify areas of improvement in my current role and to take a proactive approach to implementing these improvements. I also plan to continue to develop my strategic management and leadership skills through further education and certifications, and to increase my knowledge of the business environment. In the future, I hope to use these skills to pursue a career in business consultancy, and to help businesses achieve their goals and objectives.

What would you say to someone wondering if an apprenticeship is right for them/for their development?

An apprenticeship can be a great way to learn new skills, gain valuable experience and to build on your existing knowledge and abilities. With a CMI Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership Practice apprenticeship, you could gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to become a successful leader in the workplace. You will develop the ability to use strategic thinking and planning to create and implement successful projects, as well as the ability to manage people, processes and resources. In addition, you will be able to gain a valuable qualification that will set you apart from others in the job market and open the door to many career opportunities.
