The face-to-face Fusion Forum, a patient pre-op educational class, was established twelve years ago at RNOH. It was aimed at patients who were considering an ankle or hind foot fusion but were concerned about the recovery process time and how would they walk after the surgery.
Patient education—an important part of delivering clinical care—is described by the World Health Organisation as ‘the process of influencing patient behaviour and producing the changes in knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to maintain or improve health’ (WHO, 1998). Patients rely on their clinicians to receive information they require before surgery or treatment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and distanced patients need to travel, the Fusion Forum video was developed.
This multidisciplinary project highlights the roles colleagues play in the patient journey and gives patients information to aid their decision making. Patient testimonials also aim to help gain an insight into expected pathway they will follow.
The recorded session is now available to view on the RNOH YouTube channel.
