Huge congratulations to our consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Lee Bayliss, who won the Surgeon of the Year award at the Bone Cancer Research Trust's Bone Idol Awards for his outstanding contribution to the primary bone cancer community.

lee bayliss bone idol.jpgThe Bone Cancer Research Trust are the leading UK charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer and are uniquely placed to make a difference through research, information, awareness and support. On the night, the awards were hosted by the broadcaster, scientist, and author Professor Alice Roberts. Fascinated by human biology and diseases of the bone, Professor Roberts is an accomplished speaker and presenter who is widely known for her appearances on Channel 4’s Time Team, BBC’s Coast, and Digging for Britain.

Dr Lila Dinner, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer at RNOH, said: “My congratulations to Lee. The research, awareness and support work carried out by the Bone Cancer Research Trust complements so much of the clinical work we undertake at RNOH. Lee and Orthopaedic Oncology team are a crucial part of the world-leading care we deliver to patients at all stages of life and this recognition by the Bone Cancer Research Trust is a testament to Lee’s dedication and skill in caring for our patients."

 

The mAsif Saifuddin.jpgost prestigious award of the evening, The Ian Lewis Outstanding Contribution Award, went to Dr Asif Saifuddin for the wonderful contribution he made to the bone sarcoma field, both nationally and internationally. Dr Saifuddin was a consultant radiologist and senior member of the bone and soft tissue tumours service at RNOH before he died in August 2023.

Dr Saifuddin joined RNOH as a consultant radiologist straight after completing his radiology training from Leeds in 1992. He produced close to 400 scientific publications over the next 30 years or so. Most of these papers were published in the most respected scientific journals. He also wrote around ten radiology books (including his magnum opus on MR imaging of Musculoskeletal MRI) and co-authored many chapters in established textbooks.
