Walking UP stairs
Stand close to the stairs. Hold onto the rail with one hand and the crutch/ crutches in the other hand (if you need to carry the second crutch up and down stairs the physiotherapist will advise on how to do so).
First take a step up with your non-operated leg. Then take a step up with your operated leg, onto the same step as your non- operated leg. Then bring your crutch up onto the step. Always go one step at a time.
Walking DOWN stairs

First put your crutch down onto the step. Then take a step down with your operated leg. Then take a step down with your non-operated leg, onto the same step as your operated leg. Always go one step at a time.
